Dog flu
Q: We have been sick around the house and my 2 year old pit shepperd mix has weeping eyes, with some redness, some dicharge and has thrown up,she also has been bumping into walls once in a while is it possible she caught something to.
A: Not likely from you. but could be upper respiratory infection. however if this bumping into walls persists, much more serious so i would have her eye site evaluated at vet
For best protection
Q: Could i combine program and advantix together to protect my beagle from flea and tick? i use heartgard plus to protect heartworm as well. i just wondering if it's safe for my dog. please give me some advice.
A: You should have no need to add program to the regimen.

Sentinal vs heartgard plus
Q: My 41/2 year old westie gets a dose of frontline plus each month - in addition for the first four years he was on sentinal. our vet has left general practice and the new vet prescribed heartgard plus - even though i requested sentinel. what is the difference between the two? is one recommended over the other? i am concerned about parasites because he does like to eat rabbit droppings. (yuck)
A: Heartgard plus and sentinel protect against heartworms, hookworms and roundworms. sentinel also protects against fleas and whipworm.

Testing
Q: Hi, i just returned from the vet and had my two dogs tested for heartworm. the tests where negative and i wanted to purchase a one year supply of heartgard for each dog. the vet informed me i would have to return in six months and have them retested. i have just moved to florida from ohio where i could buy the meds for two years on a test as long as i administered the medicine year round. any info would be appreciated. kathy mahony
A: Most veterinarians in florida test once a year, i know my does.|check with your veterinarian for the reason for more frequent testing, could be some local conditions. you might also call some other local veterinarians for guidance.

My dog eats cat feces
Q: How can i get my dog to not eat my cat's feces? i can't get him to understand that the litter box is not for snacking. please help!! thanks kirstin franzman
A: Caprophagia|you will need to add a protein-derived product call for-bid #10475 to your cat's diet. this in turn will make the feces very unpalatable.|your problem is shared by a good number of pet owners so please do not feel this is an isolated thing.
Flea, tick and heartworm meds
Q: Is bio spot as effective and safe to use on a 25lb beagle as frontline plus. if so why is it so much less expensive. the same question applies to the heartworm generic product?
A: The biospot is effective, but i prefer anduse frontline plus on my own dogs and cats. the difference in price is based on the chemicals. as for the iverheart plus replacement for heartgard plus, the products are equivalent, and you can save money using it.
